4) Flypage config.txt File Establishes Updatable Content Area

The Flypage Updater program gets its configuration information from a text file that is used to designate the HTML page name, its location on the server, the username and passwords that have access to it and the instructional text for each Flypage Tag that the user will see/use to instruct them on what information is expected in each update box. The Web Developer who installs and sets up Flypage Updater on a site is responsible for maintaining this config.txt file. Each web page on the site that uses the Flypage Updater program will have a block of text in this config.txt file to inform the Flypage Updater program on how to handle the web pages.

On the graphic above we have highlighted in yellow a part of the Config.txt file that establishes the content area as an updatable area on the HTML web page. As you see it is labeled "v001=Main Headline Of Page" - the v001 is the flypage tag number and the "Main Headline Of Page" is the instructional text that will appear on top of the edit box to lead the user into knowing what content gets included in that box.

POINTS TO REMEMBER
  • The config.txt file can be updated at any time by using notepad/wordpad or any text editor.
  • The config.txt includes a section for each HTML page in the website that uses Flypage Updater tags.
  • The config.txt file like all text files and HTML files must be uploaded to the web server using ASCII mode on your FTP program.
  • The text after the name of a flypage tag is the instructional text that appears above the edit boxes on the Edit Screens and can include as much text as needed to convey the complete details to update the content appropriately.
  • The instructional text associated with each Flypage Tag included in the config.txt file can use HTML code which allows the Web Developer to deliver explicit instructions to the people who will be using Flypage Updater to keep their web pages fresh.
